People: In the colors of the rainbow, we see the sign of God's grace for all creation. Leader: In the days of Moses, the words of God were written on tablets of stone, as the sign of a covenant between God and all of God's people. People: In the tablets of stone, we see the sign of God's hope for each to live in peace with God and neighbor. Leader: In the days of the prophet, God promised to place a new covenant in our hearts. All: As members of the living Body of Christ, we see the sign of God's promise among us. — from the Lent 2006 liturgy, posted on the Seekers Church website, http://www.seekerschurch.org/ Reposted: https://re-worship.blogspot.com/2012/02/lent-call-to-worship-covenant.html Opening Prayer O God of all goodness, you welcome us, forgive us and heal us. You seek us out from places where we have hidden from you. You crown us with steadfast love and mercy. Reveal yourself to us in this moment. Let us know your presence so that we may bless you: Bless you, O God! Bless your holy name! Amen. ~ written by The Rev. Catherine Rolling, and posted on the United Church of Christ’s Worship Ways website. http://www.ucc.org/worship/worship-ways/year-c/p/pentecost-ordinary-time-11.html Children's Message Today our Children's message comes from Donna and has some fun in the middle with a hammer and something smashing Joy's, Concerns, Giving, and Prayers I invite you, either in the comments to the Facebook video or in the YouTube video to share your joys and concerns. As we go forward I'll make sure they get shared with the rest of the church (and I'm looking forward to doing that, so share away!) If you want to make sure we get a prayer request, but don't want to put it in the comments, please follow this link: Share a joy, concern, and/or prayer request During this time I invite you to give as well. Thank you for your continued offerings to the church, and to the many other places around us that you’ve been giving of your time and your money. Remember that you can mail in your offerings to: Marceline UMC 321 N Kansas Ave Marceline, MO 64658 You can also give online. Your gifts and commitment to your faith help us reach out and tell Jesus’ story in so many different ways. Take some time for some personal prayer, and take some time to give. This could be the time when you go online, or you write a check to the church, or when you make that commitment to give in a different way. After the personal prayer, I'll say a prayer (if you're watching the video), and then join in saying the Lord's Prayer below. Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever. Amen Scripture Reading Our scripture reading for worship comes from Exodus 20:1-17 1Then God spoke all these words: 2I am the LORD your God who brought you out of Egypt, out of the house of slavery. 3You must have no other gods before me. 4Do not make an idol for yourself—no form whatsoever—of anything in the sky above or on the earth below or in the waters under the earth. 5Do not bow down to them or worship them, because I, the LORD your God, am a passionate God. I punish children for their parents’ sins even to the third and fourth generations of those who hate me. 6But I am loyal and gracious to the thousandth generation of those who love me and keep my commandments. 7Do not use the LORD your God’s name as if it were of no significance; the LORD won’t forgive anyone who uses his name that way. 8Remember the Sabbath day and treat it as holy. 9Six days you may work and do all your tasks, 10but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the LORD your God. Do not do any work on it—not you, your sons or daughters, your male or female servants, your animals, or the immigrant who is living with you. 11Because the LORD made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and everything that is in them in six days, but rested on the seventh day. That is why the LORD blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy. 12Honor your father and your mother so that your life will be long on the fertile land that the LORD your God is giving you. 13Do not kill. 14Do not commit adultery. 15Do not steal. 16Do not testify falsely against your neighbor. 17Do not desire and try to take your neighbor’s house. Do not desire and try to take your neighbor’s wife, male or female servant, ox, donkey, or anything else that belongs to your neighbor. Leader: This is the word of God, for the people of God People: Thanks be to God! Today's Message: All These Words We're given 10 Commandments, not as a weapon to keep people away, but as a tool to build God's community. Reflection Questions 1. What makes rules hard to follow? 2. How do we use rules to help ourselves and others grow? When you're ready, join in our final song Benediction
Go now to will and to work for God’s purposes. Let the same mind be in you that was in Christ Jesus. Be filled with the same love and look to the interests of others. With reverence for God, work out your salvation. And may God quench your thirst with love and consolation; May Christ Jesus strengthen you and encourage you; And may the Holy Spirit lead you on and make your joy complete. We go in peace to love and serve the Lord, In the name of Christ. Amen. ©2002 Nathan Nettleton LaughingBird.net Reposted: https://re-worship.blogspot.com/2011/09/commission-benediction-proper-21a.html
