Through the healing touch of Christ, set us free to live and to love, that we may be the people you have created us to be. Amen. Ruth Duck, Bread for the Journey, Pilgrim Press, 1981, p. 29. Children's Message Today our Children's message comes from Eleanor and reminds us of baptism and water and what Jesus does for us. Joy's, Concerns, Giving, and Prayers I invite you, either in the comments to the Facebook video or in the YouTube video to share your joys and concerns. As we go forward I'll make sure they get shared with the rest of the church (and I'm looking forward to doing that, so share away!) If you want to make sure we get a prayer request, but don't want to put it in the comments, please follow this link: Share a joy, concern, and/or prayer request During this time I invite you to give as well. Thank you for your continued offerings to the church, and to the many other places around us that you’ve been giving of your time and your money. Remember that you can mail in your offerings to: Marceline UMC 321 N Kansas Ave Marceline, MO 64658 You can also give online. Your gifts and commitment to your faith help us reach out and tell Jesus’ story in so many different ways. Take some time for some personal prayer, and take some time to give. This could be the time when you go online, or you write a check to the church, or when you make that commitment to give in a different way. After the personal prayer, I'll say a prayer (if you're watching the video), and then join in saying the Lord's Prayer below. Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever. Amen Scripture Reading Our scripture reading for worship comes from Mark 1:21-28 and tells the story of Jesus throwing out a demon 21Jesus and his followers went into Capernaum. Immediately on the Sabbath Jesus entered the synagogue and started teaching. 22The people were amazed by his teaching, for he was teaching them with authority, not like the legal experts. 23Suddenly, there in the synagogue, a person with an evil spirit screamed, 24“What have you to do with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are. You are the holy one from God.” 25“Silence!” Jesus said, speaking harshly to the demon. “Come out of him!” 26The unclean spirit shook him and screamed, then it came out. 27Everyone was shaken and questioned among themselves, “What’s this? A new teaching with authority! He even commands unclean spirits and they obey him!” 28Right away the news about him spread throughout the entire region of Galilee. Today's Message: What Have You to do with Us? When we read stories about demons we get caught in the evil of them. But we have to be careful not to lose the message of hope that comes from these stories. Reflection Questions and Further Reading Here are the challenge questions for us for this week.
When you're ready, join in our final song Benediction
Jesus comes to us, offering healing and hope, speaking and acting with authority. Listen to him. Go into this world, confident in God’s love and healing power. Go in peace and may God’s love and peace always be with you. AMEN. Nancy C. Townley, https://www.ministrymatters.com/all/entry/2279/classic-worship-connection-january-28-2018
