Welcome This weekend for worship we find ourselves at the beginning of Lent. As we begin our road to Easter, I'm asking that instead of giving something up, that you make a commitment to regular prayer and scripture reading through this season. From whichever platform your participating in worship today, let us know in the comments that you're here. Say hi! Its good to see you all there. You can also sign-in and let us know you're here. We are worshipping online and in person. There are multiple ways that you can join in worship. Youtube: Worship Service, Playlist (with music) Facebook: Service starts at 9am And you can continue on in this post. Included in the service here is music and written announcements and other information. No matter how you worship with us, know that you are in our prayers and we're glad to worship with you today. Peace, Pastor John When you're ready, click on the first video to join in singing. What follows is the order of service that you'll find in the video. You can read through it here, or scroll down to the video for the main part of the service. Announcements Tuesday 2/23: 4pm Centering Prayer on live on our Facebook Page Don't forget to bring you diapers, formula, and money donations for the Pregnancy Resource Center! Call to Worship Leader: In the beginning God created all things, People: and God saw that they were good. Leader: At our beginning, God created us People: unique and irreplaceable, loved and wanted by God, known and treasured by God even before He created us. Leader: In all our new beginnings, God creates something new People: so we will seek God in the freshness of this morning, in the laughter of friends, in the colors of creation, and in this beautiful place. Leader: Lord God, King of Creation, People: open our eyes to see your presence, our souls to sense your presence, and our hearts to love your presence, ever here in your creation, and ever beyond it in eternity. Amen. ~ Adapted from Liturgy of Creation (http://www.wellsprings.org.uk/liturgies/creation.htm). Posted on Third Space blog. http://third-space.org.uk/blog Opening Prayer Loving God, we rest in the confidence that you aren’t just a God to make covenant. You are the God that maintains and keeps covenant. We’ve seen storms, God, storms in our personal journeys, storms in our communities, storms in our nation, even storms in our churches. However, we’ve never seen a storm that you couldn’t handle. We rest in the confidence that you haven’t lost your ability to be with us even now. Remind us and remind yourself, Loving Creator, that your promise is good for all generations. Be with us, even now, we pray. Amen Children's Message Today our Children's message comes from and is from Andrea, and its kind of a mess....but that's okay Joy's, Concerns, Giving, and Prayers I invite you, either in the comments to the Facebook video or in the YouTube video to share your joys and concerns. As we go forward I'll make sure they get shared with the rest of the church (and I'm looking forward to doing that, so share away!) If you want to make sure we get a prayer request, but don't want to put it in the comments, please follow this link: Share a joy, concern, and/or prayer request During this time I invite you to give as well. Thank you for your continued offerings to the church, and to the many other places around us that you’ve been giving of your time and your money. Remember that you can mail in your offerings to: Marceline UMC 321 N Kansas Ave Marceline, MO 64658 You can also give online. Your gifts and commitment to your faith help us reach out and tell Jesus’ story in so many different ways. Take some time for some personal prayer, and take some time to give. This could be the time when you go online, or you write a check to the church, or when you make that commitment to give in a different way. After the personal prayer, I'll say a prayer (if you're watching the video), and then join in saying the Lord's Prayer below. Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever. Amen Scripture Reading Our scripture reading for worship comes from Genesis 9:8-17 8God said to Noah and to his sons with him, 9“I am now setting up my covenant with you, with your descendants, 10and with every living being with you—with the birds, with the large animals, and with all the animals of the earth, leaving the ark with you. 11I will set up my covenant with you so that never again will all life be cut off by floodwaters. There will never again be a flood to destroy the earth.” 12God said, “This is the symbol of the covenant that I am drawing up between me and you and every living thing with you, on behalf of every future generation. 13I have placed my bow in the clouds; it will be the symbol of the covenant between me and the earth. 14When I bring clouds over the earth and the bow appears in the clouds, 15I will remember the covenant between me and you and every living being among all the creatures. Floodwaters will never again destroy all creatures. 16The bow will be in the clouds, and upon seeing it I will remember the enduring covenant between God and every living being of all the earth’s creatures.” 17God said to Noah, “This is the symbol of the covenant that I have set up between me and all creatures on earth.” Leader: This is the word of God, for the people of God People: Thanks be to God! Today's Message: The Season What happens in the story of Noah's Ark is God changing our world so that we know his promise is there and that we can find hope. Reflection Questions 1. Where are you overwhelmed right now? 2. How can you spend more time with God in this season? When you're ready, join in our final song Benediction
Whatever wilderness the Spirit has brought you to: walk in boldness, as a beloved child of God walk in peace, under the shelter of the Most High walk in faith, knowing Christ walks with you. Amen. ~ written by Joanna Harader, and posted on her Spacious Faith blog. http://spaciousfaith.com/
