People: Here in this place, Christ writes the law of love on our hearts. Leader: We are children of the living God. People: Together, let us worship the Lord of Love! written by Amy Loving, and posted on The Worship Closet: The Place for Creative Worship Ideas, http://worshipcloset.com/baptism-of-the-lord-sunday-year-b-words-for-worship/. Meet us here today and teach us to recognize the covenant of justice, peace and love you have written on our hearts. So may our desires become your desires, our work become your work, and our community the place where you are sought and found. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen. ~ taken from “O God of Our Hearts: Prayers for the Fifth Sunday in Lent” written by Rev. Kathryn Matthews Huey and the Rev. Susan A. Blain. As we go forward I'll make sure they get shared with the rest of the church (and I'm looking forward to doing that, so share away!) If you want to make sure we get a prayer request, but don't want to put it in the comments, please follow this link: Share a joy, concern, and/or prayer request During this time I invite you to give as well. Thank you for your continued offerings to the church, and to the many other places around us that you’ve been giving of your time and your money. Remember that you can mail in your offerings to: Marceline UMC 321 N Kansas Ave Marceline, MO 64658 You can also give online. Your gifts and commitment to your faith help us reach out and tell Jesus’ story in so many different ways. Take some time for some personal prayer, and take some time to give. This could be the time when you go online, or you write a check to the church, or when you make that commitment to give in a different way. After the personal prayer, I'll say a prayer (if you're watching the video), and then join in saying the Lord's Prayer below. Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever. Amen Scripture Reading Our scripture reading for worship comes from Jeremiah 31:31-34 31The time is coming, declares the LORD, when I will make a new covenant with the people of Israel and Judah. 32It won’t be like the covenant I made with their ancestors when I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt. They broke that covenant with me even though I was their husband, declares the LORD. 33No, this is the covenant that I will make with the people of Israel after that time, declares the LORD. I will put my Instructions within them and engrave them on their hearts. I will be their God, and they will be my people. 34They will no longer need to teach each other to say, “Know the LORD!” because they will all know me, from the least of them to the greatest, declares the LORD; for I will forgive their wrongdoing and never again remember their sins. Leader: This is the word of God, for the people of God People: Thanks be to God! Today's Message: Written on the Heart Questions, responses and why God wants us to have his promise written on our hearts Reflection Questions 1. What parts of your life look like the Pharisees? 2. What do you think would change to live more fully? When you're ready, join in our final song Benediction
God will write a new covenant on our hearts God will be our God and we will be God’s people No longer shall we teach one another, or say to each other, “Know the Lord.” For we shall all know God. In the name of God the Source of Life, the Word of Truth, and the Spirit of Love. Amen Written by the Rev. Dr. Letty Russell and posted on the Presbyterian Promise website.
