From whichever platform your participating in worship today, let us know in the comments that you're here. Say hi! As you are a part of our online worship, it is a recording of our previous week's in person worship service. We do that so that we can share in a higher quality of worship together. Even though the service is recorded, Pastor John is down in the comments of the service every weekend. What comes next follows the same order of service that is used during in person worship. Prelude-God of this City To start today, will you say this prayer with me Come Holy Spirit, come show us how we can be the spiritual heart of this community, Amen I'm glad to be worshiping with you today! The don't commandments may be short, but they are a challenge because they assume that we often know more than we do. How we follow Jesus shows us how well we follow those commandments. This could be the time when you go online, or you write a check to the church, or when you make that commitment to give in a different way. After the personal prayer, I'll say a prayer (if you're watching the video), and then join in saying the Lord's Prayer below. Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever. Amen Scripture Reading Our scripture reading for worship is John 8:1-11 As you are able, please stand for the reading of God's Word. 1And Jesus went to the Mount of Olives. 2Early in the morning he returned to the temple. All the people gathered around him, and he sat down and taught them. 3The legal experts and Pharisees brought a woman caught in adultery. Placing her in the center of the group, 4they said to Jesus, “Teacher, this woman was caught in the act of committing adultery. 5In the Law, Moses commanded us to stone women like this. What do you say?” 6They said this to test him, because they wanted a reason to bring an accusation against him. Jesus bent down and wrote on the ground with his finger. 7They continued to question him, so he stood up and replied, “Whoever hasn’t sinned should throw the first stone.” 8Bending down again, he wrote on the ground. 9Those who heard him went away, one by one, beginning with the elders. Finally, only Jesus and the woman were left in the middle of the crowd. 10Jesus stood up and said to her, “Woman, where are they? Is there no one to condemn you?” 11She said, “No one, sir.” Jesus said, “Neither do I condemn you. Go, and from now on, don’t sin anymore.” Leader: This is the word of God, for the people of God People: Thanks be to God! My Hope is Built--UMH 368 Today's Message: Don't Throw the first Stone The don't commandments may be short, but they are a challenge because they assume that we often know more than we do. How we follow Jesus shows us how well we follow those commandments. My Faith Looks Up to Thee--UMH 452 Benediction From Psalm 37:3-6 Trust in the Lord and do good; dwell in the land and enjoy safe pasture. Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the Lord; trust in him and he will do this: He will make your righteous reward shine like the dawn, your vindication like the noonday sun. In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, Amen Postlude-You Say
