Leader: We have seen the light of God; People: through the bitter scorn of betrayal and the searing chasm of grief. Leader: We have seen the light of God; People: with eyes that have been shaded, with eyes that have been opened, with eyes that have been blinded. Reposted: Opening Prayer Holy God, mighty and immortal, you are beyond our knowing, yet we see your glory in the face of Jesus Christ, whose compassion illumines the world. Transform us into the likeness of the love of Christ, who renewed our humanity so that we may share in his divinity, the same Jesus Christ, our Lord, who live and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit. Amen. https://lectionary.library.vanderbilt.edu/Prayers.php?id=69 Children's Message Today our Children's message comes from Mary Beth Joy's, Concerns, Giving, and Prayers I invite you, either in the comments to the Facebook video or in the YouTube video to share your joys and concerns. As we go forward I'll make sure they get shared with the rest of the church (and I'm looking forward to doing that, so share away!) If you want to make sure we get a prayer request, but don't want to put it in the comments, please follow this link: Share a joy, concern, and/or prayer request During this time I invite you to give as well. Thank you for your continued offerings to the church, and to the many other places around us that you’ve been giving of your time and your money. Remember that you can mail in your offerings to: Marceline UMC 321 N Kansas Ave Marceline, MO 64658 You can also give online. Your gifts and commitment to your faith help us reach out and tell Jesus’ story in so many different ways. Take some time for some personal prayer, and take some time to give. This could be the time when you go online, or you write a check to the church, or when you make that commitment to give in a different way. After the personal prayer, I'll say a prayer (if you're watching the video), and then join in saying the Lord's Prayer below. Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever. Amen Scripture Reading Our scripture reading for worship comes from Mark 9:2-9 and tells the story of the Transfiguration 2Six days later, Jesus took with him Peter and James and John, and led them up a high mountain apart, by themselves. And he was transfigured before them, 3and his clothes became dazzling white, such as no one on earth could bleach them. 4And there appeared to them Elijah with Moses, who were talking with Jesus. 5Then Peter said to Jesus, “Rabbi, it is good for us to be here; let us make three dwellings, one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.” 6He did not know what to say, for they were terrified. 7Then a cloud overshadowed them, and from the cloud there came a voice, “This is my Son, the Beloved; listen to him!” 8Suddenly when they looked around, they saw no one with them any more, but only Jesus. 9As they were coming down the mountain, he ordered them to tell no one about what they had seen, until after the Son of Man had risen from the dead. Leader: This is the word of God, for the people of God People: Thanks be to God! Today's Message: But Only Jesus The Transfiguration is always described as Jesus being changed, but the most important change that happens is what takes place in those who were there to witness it. Benediction
Go now, and speak of what you have seen of God's glory. Do not cling to the holy moments when heaven overshadows you, but as the Lord lives, listen to Christ and follow him from the places of revelation to the places of mission. And may God shine the light of glory into your hearts. May Christ be with you and never leave you. And may the Spirit renew the image of God within you. We go in peace to love and serve the Lord, ........ In the name of Christ.
