To start today, will you say this prayer with me
Come Holy Spirit, come show us how we can be the spiritual heart of this community
I'm glad to be worshiping with you today!
In this service we're starting a series on how our faith and our faith practices support us in our lives, especially when things get hard and challenging.
From whichever platform your participating in worship today, let us know in the comments that you're here. Say hi! And say something about what makes prayer or talking to God hard for you.
After you've done that, join in singing our first song
Take a look at the announcements below

Call to Worship
I'll say the words in regular type, and please reply with the words in bold
Leader: We’ve gathered together in the presence of God to offer our praise and our prayers.
People: We come before God with confidence, knowing that even when we can’t find the words, God’s own Spirit is right here with us,
Leader: praying in us and for us, giving shape to our wordless hopes and longings, and pleading for us before the throne of grace.
People: So let’s come with joy to offer our worship to God who knows and loves us all.
Father God, Your extravagant love has called us together. Long before we even knew You, You already knew us, and had chosen us to be part of Your own family—sisters and brothers with our Lord Jesus Christ Himself. What amazing love You have shown toward us!
And so we come before You with praise and thanksgiving, offering You the worship of our hearts and lives, and opening ourselves to the prompting and leading of Your Holy Spirit.
Receive our worship—our praise and prayers and offerings—through the intercession of Your Son, Jesus Christ, our Saviour and Lord. May the time we spend here in Your presence bring honour and glory to Your Name. Amen.
Prayers, Presence, Gifts, Service, Witness
As people of faith, we share who we are with each other. Below I invite you to share your joys and concerns, your prayer requests, and your offerings. You can use the link below, or in the comments
Share a joy, concern, and/or prayer request
Remember that you can mail in your offerings to:
321 N Kansas Ave
Marceline, MO 64658
You can also give online.
Take some time for some personal prayer, and take some time to give. This could be the time when you go online, or you write a check to the church, or when you make that commitment to give in a different way.
After the personal prayer, I'll say a prayer (if you're watching the video), and then join in saying the Lord's Prayer below.
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.
Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever. Amen
Our scripture reading for worship is Romans 8:26-30 NRSV
As you are able, please stand for the reading of God's Word.
26Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness; for we do not know how to pray as we ought, but that very Spirit intercedes with sighs too deep for words. 27And God, who searches the heart, knows what is the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God.
28We know that all things work together for good for those who love God, who are called according to his purpose. 29For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, in order that he might be the firstborn within a large family. 30And those whom he predestined he also called; and those whom he called he also justified; and those whom he justified he also glorified.
Leader: This is the word of God, for the people of God
People: Thanks be to God!
Today's Message: When we don't know
We don't have to have all the right words, in fact most of the time its not the words that are important, but that we are in God's presence
As we have heard the message, will you join me in responding to it through the ancient creed of our faith.
I believe in God the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth;
And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord: who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; the third day he rose from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth at the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.
Take a few moments to reflect on the message and our faith. Let us know your thoughts down in the comments!
1. What makes it hard to be still?
2. What is most challenging about praying without words?
When you're ready, join in our final song
In you alone we put our hope, God the Father, Creator and Sustainer, who gives all good things seen and unseen.
In you alone we put our hope, God the Son, Saviour and Redeemer, who died for our sins
and rose again.
In you alone we put our hope, God the Spirit, Teacher and Comforter, who moves us to sing “Our God reigns!” In you alone we put our hope. In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, Amen
