Today is the second part of a new series that will be looking at how we build momentum to build faith in our lives, and in the lives of others
As the music starts before the service, take some time to center yourself in God's presence and direct your thoughts to him.
Meet & Greet
This is a time to say hi to the folks around you, and to share in God's peace and grace as we gather as a community of faith
First Hymn: #154 All Hail the Power of Jesus Name
Wednesday is See You at the Pole. It's at 7:15am at the High School flag pole
This is also Homecoming week! Check the announcements for parade and game times
Joys & Concerns
This is a time to share the good things, joys, and celebrations in that have taken place in the last week, as well as the hard things and concerns that we face.
Silent Prayer, Pastoral Prayer, Lord's Prayer
Take some time to lift your prayers up to God, especially the joys and concerns that have been stated, or that have been left unstated. After some time for silent prayer, Pastor John will lead in a few words of prayer, and then we'll join together in the Lord's Prayer.
Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.
This is a time led by a church member with a message specially for our kids. Afterwards, the children are invited to go with the Sunday School teachers downstairs for their own special part of the service. They'll come back up at the end of the service.
As the children come forward, please join in singing the first verse of Jesus Loves Me
1. Jesus loves me! This I know, for the Bible tells me so.
Little ones to him belong;
they are weak, but he is strong.
Yes, Jesus loves me! (sing 3x’s)
The Bible tells me so.
The ushers will come forward and receive the offering plates. The liturgist will say a prayer as we begin a time to give to God. This isn't just about the money that we put in the plates, but it is about how we give to God out of our love for him.
After the offertory has finished, please stand as you are able, and join in giving thanks to God for these offerings. Please join in singing the doxology.
Praise God, from whom all blessings flow;
Praise him, all creatures here below;
Praise him above, ye heavenly host;
Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen.
Prayer & Scripture: Mark 5:2-13
2As soon as Jesus got out of the boat, a man possessed by an evil spirit came out of the tombs. 3This man lived among the tombs, and no one was ever strong enough to restrain him, even with a chain. 4He had been secured many times with leg irons and chains, but he broke the chains and smashed the leg irons. No one was tough enough to control him. 5Night and day in the tombs and the hills, he would howl and cut himself with stones. 6When he saw Jesus from far away, he ran and knelt before him, 7shouting, "What have you to do with me, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? Swear to God that you won’t torture me!"
8He said this because Jesus had already commanded him, "Unclean spirit, come out of the man!"
9Jesus asked him, "What is your name?"
He responded, "Legion is my name, because we are many."
10They pleaded with Jesus not to send them out of that region.
11A large herd of pigs was feeding on the hillside. 12"Send us into the pigs!" they begged. "Let us go into the pigs!" 13Jesus gave them permission, so the unclean spirits left the man and went into the pigs. Then the herd of about two thousand pigs rushed down the cliff into the lake and drowned.
Leader: This is the Word of God, for the people of God
People: Thanks be to God!
Second Hymn: #382 Have Thine Own Way Lord
Message: Entering a Different World
Where have you been needing to do that uncomfortable thing, you know the one that you try to ignore. Maybe it’s someone you haven’t talked to in a while, and you need to rebuild a relationship. Maybe its someone you see all the time, but don’t know who they are. Maybe it’s volunteering for something that you know you can help with, but you didn’t want to put yourself out there, or didn’t want to start something, find that person or that place. All of that is built by building a relationship with someone else, but it means that we will be uncomfortable for a while.
And this is only a start. I don’t expect you to finish it this week, but this is one that takes time. So go this week, and make a start of it, and go be uncomfortable in Jesus name! Amen
Final Hymn: #381 Savior, Like a Shepherd Lead Us
Hear the words as we are sent back out into the world, and know that you are sent in the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit
Write something about yourself. No need to be fancy, just an overview.
