I would like to invite and encourage everyone to attend the CPR and AED Practice to be held in the church basement at 6:30 pm this Wednesday. Don Henke and other first responders will be here with several mannequins and an AED for hands-on practice. This practice should only last about 2 hours and if you have another commitment perhaps you can come in, let us know and we can be sure you get practice time in. There is nothing like hands-on practice to help you remember in a real-time emergency. Marceline is fortunate to have a fabulous team of 1st Responders, who are usually there in a matter of minutes, but every minute counts in the event of a cardiac arrest. And you might make the difference in not only saving someone’s life, but in determining the quality of life, when they recover. What you learn may help save someone you love.
The church now has an AED in the hall outside the sanctuary. Hopefully, we will never need it, but it is made to be used by the public and this class will allow you to get comfortable with it. CPR is now taught to the public as chest compressions only. So even if you have never had a CPR course, I would still encourage you to come and learn. If you think you want more training after attending Wednesday’s class both the Red Cross and American Heart Association have certification classes in our area. I know this message is long, but I cannot stress enough that I think everyone should be able to perform CPR. The 1st Responders are also taking their time to provide this training and hopefully we can show support for this great group of guys. Carol Klingsmith, R.N.
